The new TeraStation WSS 2012 R2 series combines high-performance NAS with the power and convenience of Windows operating system, providing a seamless, efficient and secure solution to network integration and BYOD. The fully populated series, in either Rackmount or Desktop formats, is available with various capacities from 4 to 24TB. It comes equipped with powerful Intel Atom Dual-Core processors -either the D2550 for 2 and 4 bay models, or the D2700 for 6 bay and Rackmount - providing a scalable solution that can support even the most demanding business requirements.
Why would you need or want a Windows based NAS storage server?
With such a huge array of storage solutions today, the choice feels infinite! One way to decide could be by the operating system of the NAS device itself, this will most likely be pre-determined by your system requirements. There are two main types of operating systems for NAS devices: Linux based or Windows based.
The TeraStation Windows Storage Server 2012 & R2 version supports Active Directory (unlimited number of users) which provides global access control, comprehensive policy and Security. Another feature of Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 is the establishment of a new format of VHDX hard drives to work through iSCSI. Due to the Online resizing controller, it became possible to increase and decrease the capacity of hard drives in real time.
One of the key features of this version is the ability to create virtualized storage and increase the capacity of NAS using Hyper-V technology. Now Hyper-V supports up to 1TB of memory per virtual machine. Windows Storage Server 2012 also provides with the migration of Hyper-V - the ability to directly transfer the virtualized storage from one server to another.
