The CALs licensing legal requirement – for multiple users & devices

Doing the right thing

Microsoft Server License may allow you to install the Operating System onto the server but it does not give you the legal right to connect to the server. This is where CALs (Client Access License) come in.

Do you need CALs

CALs are a legal requirement for all users who have direct access to Windows Server Standard or Data Centre editions.*

Multiple devices? You need device CALs

A device CAL lets an unlimited number of users access Windows Server from a single device. Ideal if you are looking to expand and increase device usage.

Remote Desktop Services CALs

If you’re looking to use Remote Desktop Services (RDS) then you will need an RDS CAL as well as a device CAL. Ideal if you have added a new branch to your business.

How many CALs do you need?

CALs are sold in packs of 1, 5, 10 or 50, as required.

* CALs, however, are not required for users of Windows Server 2016 Essentials Edition.
